Clash in La Merced on November 7, 1993 between police forces and MRTA that left two presumed subversives dead and a PNP officer wounded.
On November 7, 1993, a confrontation took place in La Merced between law enforcement forces and presumed MRTA subversives. During the confrontation, two presumed MRTA subversives were killed and an officer of the Peruvian National Police was wounded. This confrontation occurred in the context of the last year of intense violence in the central jungle, when the military offensive together with settlers and natives grouped in Defense Committees definitively reduced subversive activity in the region. The year 1993 was particularly violent in the area, with multiple confrontations between the forces of law and order and the MRTA in the provinces of Oxapampa and Chanchamayo.
