Murder of Juvenal Martinez by the military in Julcani
In November 1993, during a workers' mobilization in the mining center of Julcani, Huancavelica, the military shot and killed the leader Juvenal Martinez. The perpetrator was identified as Major Rubén Rodríguez Rebanal, who shot the worker at point blank range.
In 1993, the PCP-SL assassinated the industrial relations officer of the Julcani mine in one of its last bloody actions in the mining centers. Since then, the military and the police have been controlling the mining centers. During a workers' mobilization in the Julcani mining center, worker Juvenal Martinez was shot at close range by an army major identified as Ruben Rodriguez Rebanal. The murder occurred in the context of protests against an abusive industrial relations officer who had fired a teacher and acted against parents. All of the workers witnessed the murder of Juvenal Martínez during the mobilization.
