Division within the PCP-SL
In November 1993, the division within the PCP-SL between the followers of Abimael Guzmán and his proposal for a peace agreement, and the followers of 'Feliciano' who sought to continue the armed struggle, became publicly known.
In November 1993, the division within the PCP-SL between two main factions became public. On one side were the followers of Abimael Guzman, who from prison proposed a peace agreement, and on the other side were the followers of 'Feliciano' (Oscar Ramirez Durand), who wanted to continue the armed struggle. This division occurred after Guzmán's capture in September 1992 and marked a fundamental turning point in the organization. In December 1993, three hundred Shining Path prisoners from the Canto Grande prison adhered to Abimael Guzmán's peace letters, demonstrating the extent of this internal division.
