On October 20, 1993, the military command delivered shotguns and ammunition to nine self-defense committees in the province of Paucartambo. This event occurred in the context of the end of the cycle of violence in Cuzco, just days after General Petronio Fernandez Davila declared that there were practically no more subversive elements in the Inca region. The delivery of weapons to the self-defense committees was part of the counter-subversive strategy of the Peruvian State to combat the PCP-SL and the MRTA. This event symbolizes the progress of the organization of the self-defense committees in the region and marks an important point in the pacification of the department of Cuzco.
