José Castro Campos, driver in Tumba Ortega murder captured
Police capture Jose Castro Campos, driver on the run after murder of Col. Tumba Ortega
On August 10, 1993, the National Police Intelligence Directorate captured Jose Castro Campos, who acted as the driver of the getaway vehicle in the assassination of Colonel Manuel Tumba Ortega. In his statement he confessed that in November 1992 he participated in a meeting where 'Bertha' (Iris Quiñonez Colchado) informed about the plan to annihilate the PNP commander of Surquillo. He was transferred to the Special Military Court of the Peruvian Navy to be tried for the crime of treason.
