National Prosecutor Blanca Nélida Colán traveled to Huancayo in July 1993 to investigate the disappearances of 89 students, including 20 university students. These students were kidnapped by alleged paramilitaries in the context of the political violence affecting the region. The prosecutor's investigation took place at a time of intense repression against students allegedly linked to subversive groups. This fact evidences the magnitude of the forced disappearances that particularly affected the student population of Junín during the internal armed conflict.
