San Ignacio court prosecutes three police officers for abuse of authority against forest defenders
The Criminal Court of San Ignacio opened an investigation against Major PNP César Coquis Coz, Captain PNP Antonio Benavides Samalvides and Sub Officer 3ª Óscar Rafael Villacrés Costa for the crime of abuse of authority against eleven forest defenders who had been arbitrarily detained. The judge determined that the detainees had suffered physical mistreatment and humiliation, and that the medical examination requested through Habeas Corpus was denied.
