Awareness campaign for Antonio
Awareness campaign initiated by OPASM and the family of Antonio, an MRTA commander, consisting of his mother's call for him to take refuge in the law of repentance. The campaign was aimed at getting other emerretistas to follow his example.
In May 1993, the OPASM (Oficina Prelatural de Acción Social de Moyobamba) in coordination with the family of (c) Antonio, initiated a sensitization campaign that consisted of the mother's call to her emerretista son to accept the law of repentance. The following cliché was used: 'If Antonio surrenders, it will be demonstrated that there are cases in which the call of a mother can be stronger than the bullets of a gun'. If Antonio was made to repent it was feasible that the active emerretistas would embrace the law of repentance en masse. The campaign included a plea for him to accept the law of repentance with the message 'Listen to your mother son' and a song sung by the mother that recalled her childhood. When Lucero Cumpa was captured in May 1993, Antonio was left as the sole commander of the FNO (Northeastern Front) and took refuge in the Pongo de Caynarachi because the Army was harassing him a lot.
