PCP-SL annihilation command capture
Capture of a PCP-SL annihilation commando operating in four provinces of Puno, including two active army soldiers among the detainees. This operation was part of the multiple strikes against the PCP-SL in 1993.
On March 16, 1993, law enforcement forces captured a PCP-Sendero Luminoso annihilation commando operating in the provinces of Lampa, Azángaro, Carabaya and Melgar in the department of Puno. Among those arrested were two active army soldiers, which demonstrated the Shining Path's infiltration into the armed forces. This capture was part of a series of effective blows against the Shining Path columns that multiplied in 1993, after the capture of Abimael Guzmán in 1992 and the promulgation of the decrees of repentance. The operation demonstrated the progress of military intelligence work in the dismantling of PCP-SL networks in the southern Andean region.
