Sexual abuse at Huanta Military Base

In 1993, after the installation of a military base in Carhuarán, Huanta, military personnel began to sexually abuse young women in the community.

After the establishment of a military base in the Carhuarán community, military personnel began to systematically abuse the civilian population. The abuses were mainly of a sexual nature and were directed especially against young women in the community. These events occurred in the context of counter-subversive operations in the Huanta area. The testimony indicates that when the military returned and established the base, the generalized abuses against the female population began.
