End of MRTA military actions in Ucayali
MRTA's military actions in Ucayali ended in 1993 due to organizational disconnection, poor logistical support and the crisis generated after the death of its commander in 1989. The organization had lost its social base by imposing a militaristic line and conducting violent moralization campaigns.
Between 1990 and 1993, the MRTA experienced a progressive disarticulation in Ucayali due to multiple factors. The disconnection of the Army of the Territory (ET) from the Eastern Front (FO) with the Regional Directorate (DR) and the scarce logistical support from the city caused the abandonment of the military contingents. The MRTA had imposed a militaristic line to the detriment of political work, carrying out moralization campaigns that included murders of prostitutes, homosexuals, drug addicts and unfaithful spouses under the label of 'crusade against vice'. The death of Comandante Mario in September 1989 had generated a major organizational crisis that led to its slow demise. MRTA's military actions came to a definitive end in 1993.
