Second regional meeting of peasant patrols held in San Antonio de Cumbaza in 1993, organized by OPASM and the peasant patrols as part of the pacification process in San Martin. This event consolidated the organization of the peasant patrols that had been formed since 1990 to confront subversive violence.
The II Regional Meeting of Peasant Patrols was held in San Antonio de Cumbaza in 1993, as part of a process of consolidation of the organizations of peasant patrols in the department of San Martin. This meeting was organized by OPASM (Oficina Prelatural de Acción Social de Moyobamba) in conjunction with the peasant patrols of the region. The event was part of a series of meetings that began in 1991 with the I Regional Meeting in Shapaja, where OPASM was elected as advisor to the rondas. During 1992, the First Meeting of the Bajo Huallaga Rondas was held in Chazuta and the First Meeting of the Alto Mayo Rondas was held in Buenos Aires. These meetings were fundamental for the articulation and strengthening of the peasant patrols as a strategy for pacification in the face of MRTA violence in the region.
