Establishment of Military Base in Villa El Salvador

In 1993, the Armed Forces established a Military Base in Villa El Salvador, near the Zonal Park and Pachacamac, in response to the brutal acts of the PCP-SL and its growing presence in local organizations, with the objective of protecting threatened authorities and leaders.

The brutal acts of the PCP-SL and its growing presence in local organizations forced the Armed Forces to establish a Military Base within VES, near the Zonal Park and Pachacamac. The military base was established with the supposed purpose of protecting district authorities and certain leaders threatened by the PCP-SL, trying to ally with them. The presence of the Army in VES and the increased deployment of security and intelligence agents, combined with the Shining Path advance and the fear it aroused, instilled fear in the population. This military establishment occurred in the context of the decline in violence that began after the capture of Abimael Guzmán in September 1992.
