Attempted coup d'état organized by retired generals aborted
An attempted coup d'état, organized by retired Army generals Jaime Salinas Sedó, José Pastor Vives and Víctor Ernesto Obando Salas; Major EP (r) Salvador Carmona Bernasconi; and active commanders Raúl Montero and Marcos Zárate Rotta was aborted. The operations were allegedly in charge of Major EP Hugo Ormeño Huapaya. All the military personnel involved were arrested. According to the magazine Sí, the group of coup plotters had among their intentions to eliminate presidential advisor Vladimiro Montesinos.
