DINCOTE colonel who participated in Guzman's capture is killed by a Shining Path commando
PNP Colonel Manuel Alberto Tumba, head of the Administration Division of DINCOTE and part of the team that intervened in the capture of Abimael Guzmán, was treacherously murdered by a Shining Path special detachment when he was walking to his car a block away from his home. He had been 'regulated' by the special detachment for 15 days, during which time they studied all his movements without knowing who he was, only that he was 'a high chief of DINCOTE'.
