Kidnapping and murder of businessman David Ballón Vera by MRTA

MRTA kidnaps and murders businessman David Ballon after negotiations fail

David Ballón Vera, owner of the Santander de Canta mine, was kidnapped while driving his vehicle on the fifth block of Tomás Marsano Avenue, Surquillo. MRTA members wearing police uniforms and medical aprons, with two fake patrolmen and a stolen ambulance, intercepted his vehicle. They shot at the armored windows, used steel bows to break them and forced him to get out. The MRTA demanded several million dollars but negotiations failed. After five months and thirteen days in captivity, he was tortured and killed with two shots in the head in an exemplary manner according to a former MRTA member. His body was abandoned on February 24, 1993 in San Miguel with a beard down to his stomach, malnourished and dehydrated.
