Capture of Abimael Guzman and his Central Committee in September 1992 impacts PCP-SL presence in universities
In September 1992, Abimael Guzmán and almost all of his Central Committee were captured. This was probably the central factor in the abandonment of the Shining Path cadres at La Cantuta. The capture was preceded by a series of arrests of the main leaders of the PCP-SL, including Víctor Zavala Cataño in June 1991.
