Kidnapping and disappearance of La Cantuta teacher and students
Teacher and 9 students from La Cantuta kidnapped and disappeared.
Two days after the Tarata attack, the kidnapping and disappearance of the professor and 9 students of La Cantuta took place. Monsignor Jose Dammert, in his homily for national holidays, referred to the terrible wave of violence and proposed the implementation of sensible military measures that would not lead to the punishment of innocent people or the imposition of the death penalty. In 1993, in response to protests over the case, Bishop Cipriani argued that the case was being used politically under the pretext of defending human rights.
