Takeover of towns in Cachachi and San Marcos by the PCP-SL

On June 12, 1992, the PCP-SL simultaneously took the towns of Chuquibamba, Carrizal, Chingol, Huanza in Cachachi and Shirac in San Marcos (Cajabamba). This action was part of the Shining Path's territorial control strategy in the region.

On June 12, 1992, the PCP-SL carried out a simultaneous takeover of several towns in the provinces of Cajabamba and San Marcos. The Shining Pathists took the towns of Chuquibamba, Carrizal, Chingol and Huanza in Cachachi, as well as Shirac in the José Manuel Quiróz district of San Marcos. This action was part of the Shining Path strategy of territorial control in the region, in a period of intense PCP-SL activity in the northern provinces of Cajamarca. The event occurred in the context of the Shining Path offensive that intensified between 1992 and 1993, after having managed to destroy associative enterprises and establish support bases in rural areas.
