Armed strike of the PCP-SL in Huancayo

Armed strike decreed by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso that paralyzed the entire region of Huancayo on May 16, 1992, in the context of the most violent period in the Mantaro Valley.

On May 16, 1992, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso decreed an armed strike that paralyzed the entire region of Huancayo. This event was part of the period of greatest violence in the Mantaro Valley (1989-1992), when the PCP-SL was implementing its V Plan to 'Develop Bases for the Conquest of Power'. The armed strike was one of the strategies of territorial control and demonstration of force that the subversive group used to paralyze economic and social activities in the region. During this period, Huancayo was the epicenter of violence in the area, concentrating more than half of the deaths registered in the Mantaro Valley.
