Killing at Miguel Castro Castro Prison - Operation Move One
Police operation in Castro Castro prison leaves 41 inmates dead
The police operation known as "Mudanza Uno" (Move One) began in the Shining Path wards of the Miguel Castro Castro prison in order to transfer more than 100 women to the Santa Monica prison. Given the refusal of the PCP-SL inmates and the resistance, the operation lasted four days and resulted in the death of 41 inmates. Among them were Hugo Deodato Juarez Cruzatt, member of the Shining Path Political Bureau and other members of the Central Committee. During the operation, neither international organizations nor the International Red Cross were allowed to mediate.
