Fujimori's self-coup; Episcopal Conference laments constitutional breakdown.
On April 10, 1992, President Fujimori staged a coup d'état. The Episcopal Conference issued a communiqué regretting the breakdown of the constitutional and legal order and urging its prompt reestablishment. On June 6, the bishops published the document 'A new Peru, a task for all', calling for the reestablishment of democracy.
