Detention of a woman by police officers in Barranco on April 5, 1992, who was the victim of sexual violence and extortion by a captain who offered her freedom in exchange for sexual favors.

A female affiant was arrested by police officers on April 5, 1992 in the district of Barranco, Lima. During her detention, she was the victim of sexual violence and groping by the officers. A captain offered her her freedom in exchange for agreeing to be with him, telling her: 'you have nothing to incriminate you, you will leave; it is your word against that of your accuser; there is nothing against the law but I am going to ask you for something and that depends on you: if you agree to be with me, I will release you and you will go free'. This case illustrates the pattern of sexual abuse as a form of torture and extortion during detentions in the context of the internal armed conflict.
