Confrontation in Raucana

Armed confrontation in April 1992 between the Army and Shining Path supporters in Raucana, Ate Vitarte, the largest organizational experiment of the PCP-SL as an 'Open Popular Committee' in Metropolitan Lima.

Armed confrontation between soldiers of the Peruvian Army and Shining Path supporters in Raucana, district of Ate Vitarte. Raucana represented the largest organizational experiment of the PCP-SL in Lima, constituted as an 'Open Popular Committee' in the heart of Ate Vitarte. The inhabitants came mainly from El Agustino and Andahuaylas, as well as from other districts of Lima and provincial residents displaced by violence in rural areas. This settlement was considered the failed Shining Path project of the 'Open Popular Committee' in the capital, being a pilot test of the Shining Path support base in the city.
