Attack against Ana Lira Chupingahua
Shining Path attacked sub PNP officer Ana Lira with five shots, she survived but was left blinded
1st PNP sub officer Ana Lira Chupingahua was attacked by members of Sendero Luminoso when she was on her way to the Comptroller General of the Republic. At 7:40 a.m., while trying to board public transportation, she was shot five times in the back, chest, stomach and head. A woman fired the shots while an armed man prevented her husband from helping her. Ana survived but was left with total irreversible blindness in both eyes. The attackers walked away after giving her the coup de grâce.
