Operation Move One in Canto Grande prison
Operation Move One in Canto Grande results in the death of 35 hiker inmates
A transfer of prisoners in the Shining Path wards of the Canto Grande prison initiated on March 9, 1992, during which 35 inmates accused of terrorism were killed. Being a police operation, it included special undercover forces that selectively eliminated members of the Shining Path Central Committee throughout the operation. The secrecy maintained and the handling of the press allowed this massacre of inmates not to be identified as such by the Peruvian public or by international observers.
