Murder of 10 people in Pihuan, Jurau-Cochas

On March 5, 1992, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso murdered 10 people in the villages of Pihuan, Jurau-Cochas, Cajatambo, for supporting the formation of peasant patrols. The victims' throats were slit, including entire families.

On March 5, 1992, in the villages of Pihuan, Jurau-Cochas, in Cajatambo, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso murdered 10 people for supporting the formation of peasant patrols. The victims were: Máximo Herbozo Tolentino, Cristina Morales Blas, Elena Herbozo Morales, Eusebio Tolentino Navarro, Cirilo Tolentino Medina, Jorge Estrada Mendoza, Perpetua Chavarría López, Máximo Herbozo Morales, Oscar Tolentino Medina and Pedro Chevarria. According to the testimony of a family member, the victims' throats were slit, including entire families with children as young as fourteen years old. This attack was part of the Shining Path response against the population that supported the organization of self-defense committees in the region.
