Operation Spoon
Military operation with 900 troops bombed areas and executed civilians in Bolsón Cuchara
In March 1992, Army troops from the Counter-Subversive Base No. 313, reinforced by the Command Battalion No. 19, carried out Operation Spoon. Approximately 900 men participated. The objective was to teach the villagers a lesson so that they would not support the Shining Path. They bombed the area with helicopter gunships and fighter planes, burned houses with kerosene and gasoline, and executed the civilian population found. Testimonies indicate that any house they found was burned and the people were all killed.
