March for Peace organized by María Elena Moyano

Maria Elena Moyano called a March for Peace in Villa El Salvador on February 14, 1992, the same day that Shining Path had declared an armed strike. This act represented a direct challenge to Shining Path violence in the district.

On February 14, 1992, the day the Shining Path PCP called an armed strike, María Elena Moyano, president of the Women's Federation (FEPOMUVES), called a March for Peace in Villa El Salvador. This march was an act of direct resistance against Shining Path violence in the district. During that same day, the PCP-SL carried out 25 attacks in Lima, including the blowing up of a bomb truck. Days before the event, on February 10 and 12, the PCP-SL had assassinated an elderly watchman and a neighborhood leader in Villa El Salvador, intensifying the climate of terror.
