Executions in Apiza community

State forces tortured and murdered 32 peasants in Apiza by burning them with muriatic acid.

Combined forces of the Army and National Police raided the community of Apiza in order to search for members of the PCP-SL. Approximately 100 troops under the command of Lieutenant EP 'Aquiles' gathered 32 people including men, women and children in a house owned by Víctor Penadillo. They interrogated them about the whereabouts of Shining Path leaders and if they refused, they tortured them all. They tied them with their hands behind their backs, threw them to the ground and burned their faces and bodies with muriatic acid. Then they shot them with firearms and threw explosives into the house.
