Attack on police officers in Villa El Salvador central market
A column of eleven hikers attacked three non-commissioned officers of the General Police near the central market of Villa El Salvador, resulting in the death of one policeman. The attack instilled great fear in the population.
On January 13, 1992, a column of eleven hikers attacked three non-commissioned officers of the General Police who were doing surveillance near the central market of VES. One policeman was killed in the attack, and the event instilled a great deal of fear in the population. This attack was part of a series of attacks, assassinations and assassination attempts committed by the PCP-SL at the beginning of 1992 in Villa El Salvador. The attack occurred in the context of the Shining Path strategy of creating a power vacuum by intimidating and eliminating local authorities and leaders in the district.
