Attack to the police post in Pucará

On January 11, 1992, the PCP-SL attacked the police post of Pucará in the province of Lampa. This attack was part of a continuation of violent actions by the PCP-SL in the department of Puno during the most intense period of the internal armed conflict. The event took place in a context where the PCP-SL was still active in several provinces of the department, although it was already facing growing opposition from the forces of law and order and loss of social support. This attack occurred months before the capture of Abimael Guzmán in September 1992, which marked the beginning of the strategic defeat of the subversive organization.
