Announcement of Ricardo's disassociation from the MRTA

Ricardo and other commanders announced their dissociation from the MRTA in January 1992 due to strategic differences, criticizing the 'senderization' of the movement. This rupture initiated confrontations between the MRTA and Ricardo's new guerrilla group.

In January 1992, Ricardo, along with other commanders such as Pepe, Tarzan, Gato and Chavez, announced their dissociation from the MRTA due to differences in political and military strategy. Among the reasons mentioned was criticism of the 'senderización of the MRTA', particularly the indiscriminate assassination of those who disagreed internally. This decision to split off gave rise to the first clashes between the MRTA and the new guerrilla formed by Ricardo. Ricardo's presence in the Central Huallaga zone at the end of 1991 had produced a crack in the Northeastern Front.
