Attack on Huancasancos during Corpus Christi
On June 24, 1984, during the celebration of Corpus Christi, the town of Huancasancos in Peru was attacked by the Shining Path (PCP-SL). The assault resulted in thirty injuries and eight deaths, including the captain in charge of the local military base. This attack was part of the broader conflict between the Shining Path and the Peruvian military, which saw significant violence throughout the region during the early 1980s.
Durante la víspera de Corpus Christi del 24 de junio de 1983, subversivos del PCP-SL irrumpieron violentamente en Huancasancos, atacando las casas de los carguyuq y maltratando a la población. El capitán jefe de la base policial fue asesinado cuando intentó enfrentarlos. Los subversivos procedieron a asesinar a varios comuneros mientras la población huía en pánico. Al amanecer, se reportaban ocho muertos y treinta heridos aproximadamente.
