Subversives apply for repentance law in Sint Maarten
At the end of 1992, MRTA subversives began to massively accept the law of repentance in San Martin, facilitated by the work of the OPASM and the families of the militants. The repentants provided crucial information to dismantle the MRTA bases.
At the end of 1992, MRTA subversives began to take advantage of the law of repentance, either with the armed forces or with the OPASM (Oficina Prelatural de Acción Social de Moyobamba). The OPASM carried out a comprehensive work with the people who were taking advantage of the law, coordinating with the Prelature of Moyobamba so that each parish in the department would receive the repentants. The repentants provided the Huallaga Front with more information for the capture of weapons and the location of the guerrilla bases. An important action was the accompaniment of family members of MRTA commanders and militants so that they would accept this law, thus accelerating the eradication of political violence in San Martin.
