I Meeting of Rondas del Bajo Huallaga

Coordination meeting of the peasant patrols of Bajo Huallaga held in Chazuta in 1992, organized by OPASM as part of the pacification process in San Martin. It was one of several regional meetings that consolidated the organization of the peasant patrols against the MRTA.

The I Encuentro de Rondas del Bajo Huallaga was held in Chazuta in 1992, as part of a series of meetings organized by OPASM (Oficina Prelatural de Acción Social de Moyobamba) and the peasant patrols of San Martin. This event was one of several regional meetings that sought to consolidate and coordinate the peasant patrols in different areas of the department. The meeting took place in the context of the pacification of the region and the fight against the MRTA, after the I Regional Meeting of Peasant Patrols was held in 1991 in Shapaja, where OPASM was elected as an advisor to the patrols. That same year, 1992, the I Meeting of Rondas del Alto Mayo was also held in Buenos Aires.
