Consolidation of Rondas Campesinas in Julcamarca
In 1992, the communities of Julcamarca consolidated the Rondas Campesinas with support from the army and ronderos from Lircay. This process strengthened the local self-defense capacity against the Shining Path in the province of Angaraes.
In 1992, the communities of Julcamarca managed to consolidate the Rondas Campesinas with the support of the army and the ronderos of Lircay. This consolidation process took place in a context of intensifying violence in the area, where the Shining Path had been systematically attacking members of the Rondas Campesinas. The consolidation of these self-defense organizations represented a turning point in the communities' ability to resist terrorist attacks. This event was part of the third attempt by the Armed Forces to consolidate the Rondas committees in the area, which had begun in 1989 under the administration of the political-military command.
