In 1992 there was an attack against a police detachment in the provinces of Acobamba or Angaraes, in the department of Huancavelica. The attack resulted in the death of 4 policemen. This event occurred in the context of the end of violence in the area, shortly before the capture of Abimael Guzmán and the PCP-SL leadership in Lima. After this attack, violence in these provinces decreased notably, with the capture of the Shining Path leadership leading to the "peace accords" between Guzman and Montesinos a year later.
