Capture of suspected hikers in Ventanilla

In December 1991, the Navy and police forces captured 20 alleged hikers in operations carried out in the area between the international airport and Ventanilla, Callao. These operations were part of the counterinsurgency strategy in the Northern Zone of Lima.

In December 1991, law enforcement forces conducted coordinated operations in the area between the international airport and the district of Ventanilla in Callao. In two operations by the Navy and one by the police forces, 20 presumed Shining Path members were captured. These operations were part of the State's response to the growing subversive presence in the Northern Zone of Metropolitan Lima. The Ventanilla area had been identified as an area of Shining Path activity in the context of the internal armed conflict.
