Attack against Emma Hilario

Attack perpetrated by five Shining Pathists against leader Emma Hilario in her home in December 1991, leaving her brother-in-law and husband wounded. The attack was part of the PCP-SL campaign against leaders of popular women's organizations in Lima.

In December 1991 there was an attack on Emma Hilario, leader of the National Central of Canteens and leader of popular women's organizations. In late December, early in the morning, five hikers entered her house while she was still resting, leaving her brother-in-law and husband wounded. Emma had received previous threats, had noticed a car following her and had recognized three women in the area who were defending positions close to the Shining Path. Days before the attack, the organizations of self-managed dining halls to which Emma Hilario belonged had received an award from Pilar Coll on behalf of the Human Rights Coordinating Committee. This attack was part of the PCP-SL's offensive against the leaders of popular organizations that opposed its territorial and political control.
