Creation of the Province of Vilcashuamán
The Province of Vilcashuamán was created in 1984 during the period of internal conflict in Peru. Located in the southern part of the Ayacucho Department, the province has a population of 22,302 inhabitants and covers an area of 20,288.940 hectares. The region is characterized by active boundary disputes among communities, which affects future development due to strong communal identities and territorial claims.
La Provincia de Vilcashuamán fue creada en 1984 durante el conflicto armado interno, en la parte sur del Departamento de Ayacucho. El centro poblado se encuentra a 3200 msnm con una superficie total de 20,288.940 hectáreas y 22,302 habitantes. Las comunidades provinciales, muchas surgidas durante el siglo XX en territorio de ex-haciendas, enfrentaban litigios activos de linderos que limitaban el desarrollo futuro debido a la fuerte identidad comunal.
