Detention of union leaders and disappearance of Emiliano Yurivilca in La Oroya

In November 1991, military personnel from the Marcavalle base arrested union leaders during a demonstration in La Oroya, accusing them of being terrorists. Emiliano Yurivilca disappeared among the detainees, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

In November 1991, during an indefinite strike by Centromín Perú workers over delays in payments, the military from the Marcavalle base intercepted a demonstration in the streets of La Oroya and arrested all the leaders and delegates leading the demonstration, accusing them of being terrorists. Among those arrested was Emiliano Yurivilca, a former union leader. The military loaded the protesters into trucks and took them away. Emiliano Yurivilca's relatives made every effort to locate him, but as of the date of the report his whereabouts were unknown. This event took place in a context of intensified arrests of union leaders by the National Police and the military, who directly linked the leaders to the PCP-SL.
