The U.S. Congress lifts the suspension of military and economic aid to Peru related to the fight against drugs. This aid had previously been suspended at the request of Senator Edward Kennedy, who demanded the temporary suspension of military aid appropriations due to allegations of human rights violations attributed to Peruvian military personnel. However, the Congress has left without effect a package of 10 million dollars destined to equip three battalions of the Peruvian Army in Alto Huallaga.
