Visit of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights

A delegation of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights visited Lima at the invitation of the Peruvian government to investigate cases of human rights violations, including the kidnapping of 82 teachers by the PCP-SL in Satipo.

At the invitation of the Peruvian government, a delegation from the United Nations Inter-American Commission on Human Rights arrived in Lima. The purpose of the visit was to investigate cases of human rights violations in the country. Among the specific cases to be investigated was that of 82 teachers who had been held hostage by PCP-SL detachments since May 1990 in the province of Satipo. This visit took place in a context of increasing reports of human rights violations in Peru.
