Murder of Doraliza Espejo

Doraliza Espejo, a leader of grassroots organizations, was assassinated in San Juan de Lurigancho in September 1991 as part of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso offensive against the popular women's leadership.

Doraliza Espejo was a leader of grassroots organizations assassinated in San Juan de Lurigancho in September 1991. Her assassination occurred in the context of a PCP-Sendero Luminoso offensive against leaders of popular women's organizations that had begun in mid-1991. This crime was part of a series of attacks and assassinations against leaders that also included the murder of Juana Lopez in Callao in August of the same year. The assassinations preceded the March "Against Hunger and Terror" held in November 1991.
