Murder of Juana López León
PCP-SL assassinates Juana Lopez Leon, coordinator of the Glass of Milk in Callao
On August 31, 1991, Juana López León, Coordinator of the Glass of Milk Program in the Juan Pablo II human settlement in El Callao, was murdered by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. Juana had begun her work in 1985 during an invasion in the area of Gambetta in Callao and since then she dedicated herself to organizing neighboring mothers in the soup kitchen and in the Glass of Milk Program. The great success of the soup kitchen was detrimental to the PCP-SL, which saw social assistance and the resistance economy as an obstacle to its advances in the poorest areas of Callao.
