Murder of Italian priest in Santa Maria

An Italian priest was murdered by subversives in the town of Santa, Santa province, Ancash, as part of a wave of violence against religious in the region.

An Italian priest was murdered in the town of Santa, province of Santa, department of Ancash. This crime occurred in the context of a series of attacks against religious in the region during August 1991. Days earlier, on August 9, a group of subversives had assassinated the mayor of Pariacoto and two Polish priests in Pariacoto, province of Huaraz, also in Ancash. These murders were part of the intensification of violent actions by the PCP-SL against local authorities and church members.
