As a result of this attack, two people died. This type of action was part of the PCP-SL's strategy of imposing armed strikes in the cities through violence and terror. The violence in the city of Huamanga during this period only stopped with the capture of Abimael Guzmán and the subsequent signing of the Peace Accord.
