Murder of the mayor of Pariacoto and two Polish priests

On August 9, 1991, a group of subversives assassinated the mayor of Pariacoto and two Polish priests in the district of Pariacoto, province of Huaraz, department of Ancash. This attack was part of a series of selective attacks intensified by the PCP-SL during that period, which included actions against local authorities and foreign religious. Days later, on August 25, an Italian priest was also murdered in the town of Santa, Santa province, also in Ancash, demonstrating a pattern of violence against members of the Catholic Church in the region.
