Santa Rosa confrontation

Clash between ronderos of Santa Rosa and the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in the province of Grau, Apurimac, on July 30, 1991. This event is part of the counter-subversive strategy based on the alliance between the Armed Forces and peasant Self-Defense Committees.

On July 30, 1991, there was a confrontation between the 'ronderos' (members of the Self-Defense Committees) of Santa Rosa and the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in the province of Grau, Apurímac. This confrontation is framed in the period of counter-subversive strategies (1989-1992), when the Armed Forces established an alliance with the peasantry to form Self-Defense Committees in the peasant communities. This event exemplifies the displacement of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso from various areas of the department of Apurímac due to the organized resistance of the peasant communities.
